Union Square at 14th Street & Broadway is a really interesting part of New York City. Union Square has long been a gathering place for demonstrators over the years. The square itself has an eclectic display of statues from George Washington unveiled in 1856 to Mahatma Gandhi.
This is a popular market area and the Greenmarket, held on the North corner of the park, offers a great variety of fresh foods and plants brought here by local farmers.
Union Square area is another part of New York that would be a good location to base yourself in the city. It is a hive of activity and something is always happening.
With many shops and businesses in the area it has a real buzz about it. Why not sit on one of the many park benches and do some people watching and just take a break from the hectic pace that makes this beautiful city so exciting.

Supermarkets Midtown Manhattan
If you are staying in an apartment in Midtown Manhattan then you need to know where to go to stock the pantry. Moreton Williams Supermarket on West 57th has all the needs for your stay in the city.
There are the usual supermarket products but as well a great selection of cakes and baked goods and they also sell some alcohol.
Wholefoods @ Columbus Circle has a huge range of everything in groceries and speciality gourmet foods.
This is a very busy store, you catch the escalator downstairs under the Wilson Sinoma Store.
If you are staying near Union Square there is a large Wholefoods store there. Other than the supermarkets the small Deli's you will see all over the city have a selected range of grocery items along with cooked foods, drinks, alcohol , chocolates and cakes. They usually have buckets of flowers out the front of their stores and are very handy to pick up the things you forgot on your big shop. They are more expensive of course but handy if you forget something.

H&H Bagels Store at 639 West 46th Street. These bagels are a favorite of New Yorkers. You will find many varieties to choose from but no matter what you choose they are delicious. Don’t forget to pickup some cream cheese if you want the authentic New York Experience.
New York City Grand Central,Market
Grand Central Station is chaos with everyday commuters rushing here and there. Take a step back from the crowd and stock up the fridge and pantry at the same time.
Under Grand Central is a great market full of fresh produce, cakes, breads, fish, meats, chocolates and deli goods. The selection is amazing and the produce delicious. If you are a gourmet cook or just want some good quality food check this out.
Macy’s Food Hall at 34th St, Herald Square.
Wow, you can get everything here. Salads, hot foods, pizza, sushi, cakes, breads, fresh fruit salads as well as soft drinks, mineral waters, alcohol, coffee and tea.
You choose the size container you require then serve yourself with the salads, fruits etc and there are staff to serve you the hot meals. Grab a table or take out for later. You will be spoilt for choice, and the quality is really excellent.
Chelsea Market New York
You will find some great produce, wines, breads, at Chelsea Market. You will be amazed at the selection. By Subway: To 14th Street and 8th Avenue
