The Trossachs - Loch Lomond Area

If you are planning a holiday in Scotland then your visit would not be complete without including The Trossachs and Loch Lomond in your itinerary. One of the most scenic areas in Scotland, it is a great place for a short break or a longer stay as there is so much to see and do.

From its central location where the highlands meet the lowlands and set within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, Callander is the ideal base to explore everything this area has to offer and also visit places further afield but also within easy driving distance. The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park is Scotlands first designated National Park and is a natural treasure trove waiting to be discovered.

Heading east from Callander a fascinating day trip can be taken to visit the spectacular Falkirk Wheel the only rotating boatlift in the world.

Further afield but still within day trip distance Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth are all within one hours drive. The rugged and desolate beauty of Glen Coe and Loch Linnhe or to the east the quaint fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife and the home of golf

St Andrews are both day trip options.

Stirling  is a 20 minute drive from Callander. Stirling is where a lot of Scotlands turbulent and violent history took place. A visit to the castle is a must as is the National Wallace Monument, both have audio tours and panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Callander, located within the Trossachs,  is an area of sparkling lochs, majestic mountains and beautiful glens. Loch Katrine is a 15 minute drive from Callander and here you can take a trip on the Famous Sir Walter Scott boat leaving at various times for either a round trip or stopping off at Stronachlachar.

Callander is a lovely village with a great main street full of the most interesting shops. There are great buys at the Woollen Mills outlets. There are many souvenir shops and you will find really good pub food at several of the Hotels on the main road. You will also find the typical Scottish tea rooms with delicious scones, pastries and other traditional  fare.

There are some lovely places to stay in the Trossachs we have two favourites  we would highly recommend, both are really lovely.

You are always welcomed when you stay at a B&B, obviously, however there are places where you are just a guest. There are others that you feel the warmth when you walk in the door and are made to feel as if the hosts really are there to make sure you enjoy your holiday. They really welcome you into their home.

These are the places we seek out  and these two particular  B&Bs are the best we have found anywhere in Scotland in our many visits here to see family and enjoy the country at the same time.  It is just a coincidence the best in our opinion are both in the Trossachs. Contact Destination Diva if you would like to enjoy a holiday in this great part of Scotland.

Our Two  Favourite Scottish B&Bs

Mac and Ania run a B&B which is in a word beautiful. Both Ania and Mac are fabulous hosts who cannot do enough for you.

In this beautiful old home the rooms have been renovated to an extremely high standard in the most tasteful tonings. The furnishings in each room are different and everything including the soft luxurious towels are top quality.

There is a mirror with a hairdryer which is a nice touch. Staying in many B&Bs throughout the UK over the years one of the most frustrating things I find is there is rarely a power point near a mirror if you wish to style your hair. However this is another of the thoughtful things these two hard working people have supplied along with a make up mirror.

Mac and Ania serve a great breakfast.
Firstly choose from a selection on the buffet,  juices, cereals, yogurt, several kinds of fruit, fresh bread.
Next a cooked breakfast of your choice and such a huge choice.
Eggs, sausages, bacon, the best black pudding ever, tomato, mushrooms, fried bread and more. There are specials offered as well such as the scrambled eggs topped with smoked salmon surrounded by mushrooms, what more can I say. Fresh bread, fresh jam and butter. Real jam and real butter not in packets!!!.

The rooms all have DVD players along with flat screen TV's. There is a vast selection of DVD's  for guests to choose from. The wifi is free and very fast.  There is a lovely lounge with a TV, DVD's and afternoon tea and coffee is provided.  We were served tea, coffee and delicious home made cakes. There is complementary sherry and chocolates available here at all times for the guests.

This B&B along with our other B&B reviewed are unequivocally the best
B&Bs we have stayed at anywhere  in Scotland over the years.

Our Two Favourite Scottish B&Bs

Pete and Katie  have only recently taken over and renovated this lovely old home  to an extremely high standard. The house is lovely.

The bedrooms are  very comfortable all finished with exquisite taste.
Luxury toiletries are supplied which is a nice touch.

The wall paper, cushions, curtains are all
absolutely beautiful, you have a feeling of light and air when you walk in the door. There's also a lovely guest lounge to relax in with sofas, chairs and TV.

There is free wifi which is fast and reliable.

The breakfasts prepared by Pete were delicious and very generous.
There was  a great selection of fresh fruit salad, cereals, yoghurt, juice from the buffet and your choice of a freshly cooked Scottish breakfast.
Eggs, sausages, bacon, black pudding, hash browns, tomato.

The owners couldn't have been more helpful. Both Katie and Pete are great hosts and  have made their home into a very welcoming place. The B&B is open all year round.

This B&B along with our other B&B reviewed are unequivocally the best
B&Bs  we  have stayed at anywhere  in Scotland over the years.

Hamish and Heather, Highland Cows welcome baby Honey.

Hamish has been a favourite attraction for years at The Trossachs Woollen Mill in Kilmahog near Callander, now joined by Heather they have produced a Highland Calf.
