The Eternal City.
Rome is one of my favorite cities in Europe. Destination Diva stayed at a lovely apartment not far from the Colosseum. We can advise you on accommodation and the best area to stay in Rome.
As one of the main tourist attractions in Rome the Colosseum always has a queue to get in so we suggest you get there early.
You can wander around the perimeter of the structure on the inside and look down into the main arena. It is incredible to stand inside the Colosseum and imagine how the stadium once held 50,000 spectators. The Roman Forum is not far away from the Colosseum and once again will leave you thinking WOW. My camera was working overtime in this beautiful city.
The Spanish Steps are another site you must visit along with The Vatican. If you wish to see the Sistine Chapel get there early, very early. The day we were there, around lunch time, there were hundreds of people in the queue waiting to see Michelangelo’s famous paintings.
The Trevi Fountain is another spectacular must see in Rome. Make sure you throw a coin in the fountain to ensure you will return to Rome.
The shopping, the food, (make sure you have a gelato), everything about Rome is" bellisimo". There is a great bus service around Rome, it stops at all the tourist spots and is inexpensive. They are small buses and can get up the narrowest of streets.
Just remember to allow plenty of time, we were in Rome for a week but could have stayed a lot longer.
Before you start your sightseeing you can save money by purchasing a Roma Pass ( we got ours from the Colosseum ticket counter) this will give you access to several sights.
