Bourbon Street the most famous street in New Orleans is full of bars, restaurants, cafe’s and shops. No matter what time of day or night Bourbon Street is abuzz with people. For jazz fanatics “Preservation Hall “ is where it was all happening back in the sixties, a night here is a great experience one that you would not find anywhere else. http://www.preservationhall.com/hall/index.aspx |

New Orleans
New Orleans, a very unique city indeed. The French Quarter is best explored on foot so you can appreciate the architecture of the old buildings. The iron lace on these buildings is something you generally find mainly in this part of the USA. If you prefer take a horse and cart ride around the French Quarter it will take you back in time and the driver will explain the history of the area which sometimes gets overlooked when touring on your own.
The French Quarter is quite large and is spread over several blocks. The area is so quaint with its colourful buildings and flower boxes everywhere.
The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is a great time to be in town, usually on around the end of April early May.
Restaurants in New Orleans are many and varied but we advise you try the local cuisine. Creole and Cajun are the specialties of the south, Cat fish is big on the menu here, along with grits.
Our favorite restaurant in this area is The Court of Two Sisters, the ambience captures the New Orleans of old. The food delicious and highly recommend.

The Palace Cafe on Canal Street, just a few doors along from the Marriott, is another excellent restaurant. The menu is reasonably priced and service above average.

An absolute must see in New Orleans are the mansions in the Garden Area which are a quick trolley car ride away. The homes are exquisite and we wandered around for hours taking many photos.
While in New Orleans take a tour to The Plantation Homes. These are organized day tours from downtown or you can choose to hire a car and drive around seeing various plantations in the area. The history and the grandeur of these Plantations is interesting although somewhat disturbing when you think of the conditions some of the people worked and lived under.
Check out the websites below on the Plantations we visited.
