Mykonos is known as the Party Island, bigger than some other islands and usually much busier than most.  There are many more streets with shops to wander through and restaurants to choose from on Mykonos.  Be sure to be adventurous and try the local cuisine.

Along the waterfront are buildings close to the sea which is splashing against their walls. This part of Mykonos is known as  Little Venice.
Seeing the classic Greek Windmills, you know you are really in Mykonos.

                           Little Venice Right.

If you want to kick your heels up and party  then Mykonos will probably suit you better than some of the smaller Islands, however, Mykonos appeals to everybody as it is a beautiful island.  Navigating your way through the myriad of narrow streets and lane ways is a challenge to visitors, a very pleasant one. The streets were designed to confuse pirates in days gone by and it certainly adds to the charm of the Island. Check out the tiny Church on the Wharf that only seems big enough for 4 people.

The main port of Mykonos is a colourful and vibrant place. Just sitting in a cafe people watching is a fascinating experience in a place like Mykonos. The only way into town is by bus or taxi and taxis are very rare in Mykonos so if you prefer to walk everywhere you are better off staying in the township. The Greek people are very friendly and they are happy to accommodate your needs.
Delos just off  Mykonos is well worth a visit. There are ferries daily to the nearby islands of Paros & Naxos if you want to  get out and about and explore.

We stumbled upon a 500 year old bakery (Bakery G.Vamvakouris) which is run by the owner's family for 10 generations. Never could there be another bakery like this. From the small street it looks like steps going into a cave. When I say steps I mean steps. Steep, old, weathered, stone steps. Once you have negotiated the steps into the bakery you are in one large room. The only concession to modern times is a basic oven and a cash register. Definitely no credit card!  I am sure nothing else has changed over the years. The food on offer is laid out on a huge tray like a table in the centre of the room. You choose from delicious cheese pies, spinach pies, custard pies, delicious sweets with pineapple syrup in the centre similar to a donut but a traditional sweet, among many other varieties to say nothing of the traditional bread. A fantastic find, this will definitely be our first stop for brekkie when we are here.

Destination Diva can customize your holiday for you at prices you never thought possible. Do yourself a favour and visit the Greek Islands.  Simply Stunning.

Petros the Pelican of Mykonos

Petros the Pelican is an intergral part of the island of Mykonos and has become the mascot.
It is hilarious watching this gorgeous bird wander the streets completely unfazed among the tourists.

Legend has it originally a fisherman found a wounded pelican in the 1950s and nursing it back to health the pelican remained on the island until he died in the 1980's. Jackie Onassis is said to have  found a substitute pelican for the locals as they missed him so much. Mykonos now has three pelicans on the island and they are very popular wandering among the streets and tourists at will.

Marietta's Apartments Mykonos

Our apartment right in the centre of Mykonos.  We chose to stay at Marietta's because of her reputation as a person who  genuinely cares for her guests. We like to be in the centre of town to be near the shops restaurants and bars as we wander around the village. This apartment was right near the windmills and Little Venice a perfect spot.

The apartment is well appointed and immaculately presented with modern facilities.  Marietta's level of service is fabulous, we had a daily cleaning service that one could not fault, and we thought her welcome and introduction was exceptional.

The apartments are  Marietta's converted childhood home, you can tell she dearly loves the island and her property. She is the perfect  hostess and can tell you exactly what to see and do.
Marietta will pick you up on arrival at the port or airport and take you back on departure.

Alefkandra Taverna Little Venice

Traditional Greek dishes are offered on the menu at this scenic restaurant, plus  delicious fresh sea food.  Alefkandra has its own aquarium  packed with lobsters. They also do a great breakfast.
The view over Little Venice and the Windmills is second to none.
