Central Florence, from the Duomo to the Arno River

This is Florence at its most chaotic, within the space of a few city blocks you'll find all the must-see attractions of Florence. The Cathedral (Duomo ) and baptistery, Piazza Signori the main square of Florence, the Uffizzi Museum, Ponte Vecchio the most beautiful of the bridges that cross the river Arno, as well as numerous other attractions.

Often overwhelming in its layer upon layer of history, we recommend taking the Original Florence Walk to truly appreciate and understand the historical core of the city.

North-east of central Florence The District of San Marco, is one of Florence's most liveliest quarters that boasts a large student population.

The centre of activity is around the Piazza Santissima Annunziata, which is one of Florence 's most beautiful squares. Nearby is the Galleria dell'Accademia which is home to Michelangelo's David, and other works by the great artist.

Our new Locations we recommend in Florence

Alessandro

Duomo steps away.
On our recent visit to Florence we were looking for some special accommodation for our clients and we certainly came up with the goods. We made contact with Alessandro who looks after an impressive portfolio of properties not only in Florence but in other areas including a beautiful property in Sicily. We booked the apartment below with him.

Wow what a great find in an unbelievable location.  It appears as if someone with great taste lives here and has just popped out to leave you to enjoy this fabulous apartment. When we arrived this charming, apartment was immaculate, it is decorated beautifully thru out and is located on the second floor with an elevator overlooking the  Via dei Servi, historic street that connects the Florentine Duomo to Piazza SS Annunziata.

There are two large bedrooms, one with a cute balcony overlooking a private courtyard, one of the bedrooms has an ensuite bathroom, a very spacious living room, the kitchen is stocked with quality appliances including a dish washer, and a huge variety of glassware and crockery. The owner has very thoughtfully left a range of coffee, tea, oils, and so much more. You also have  a washing machine /dryer & a designer bathroom with jacuzzi and there is a flat screen tv. The free wifi is fantastic.
The apartment is metres away from the Duomo, so central to everything. Sightseeing, supermarket and all other shopping.
Alessandro is a perfect host he sat with us on arrival and went through everything re the apartment then spent time explaining the best markets, local reliable restaurants, train services. He could not have been more helpful. What a way to experience Florence. This is our fifth time here and previously we have only visited for 2 or 3 days and stayed in a hotel. This time we are here a week as we wish to live as a Florentine shopping and coming home to relax in "our own place."

If you are travelling with friends or family.

In the same building Alessandro has another beautiful apartment, completely renovated on the first floor with a lift. This apartment is very elegant and the owner has retained some of his Grandmothers beautiful antique furniture. It is decorated in the traditional Italian style yet has all modern amenities.

There is  a large terrace with furniture on the courtyard very bright and well maintained.  The apartment has one bedroom, kitchen and dining area, living room with sofa bed and equipped with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, television LCD / LED, safe, bathroom with bathtub, washing machine. The kitchen is very well equipped with quality appliances including dishwasher & microwave.  Thoughtfully the owner has supplied a selection of  oils, vinegar, spices and much more.  There are umbrellas supplied if there is a shower while you are visiting this lovely city.

I would recommend both of these apartments highly for quality, location and attention you receive from Alessandro.

Think Florence or Firenze as the locals know it and think Renaissance cathedrals, museums, historical buildings and monuments.

As you walk along the narrow streets you will see many interesting little doorways or courtyards with window boxes that are so pretty.
Shopping is fantastic, particularly leather.

The food is divine.  There are many many restaurants in the heart of Florence, you will  find so much to tempt you, make sure you try some of the local cannoli. Sit in a cafe and enjoy a coffee at one of the piazza’s and watch the world go by.

Take a city bus tour if you are short on time in Florence. This will give you a feel for the city and you will see all the main attractions.  Make sure you buy a ticket for the Hop On- Hop Off as some of the bus tours only drive by and it is hard to take photos from a moving bus. However you decide to spend your time in Florence it will be delightful, this is truly a beautiful city.
