The Big Apple what a magnificent city. Having spent a lot of time in New York City we have many suggestions for you.
Empire State BuildingLet’s start with the world famous Empire State Building. Wandering around the observation deck brings back memories of scenes from “An Affair to Remember” & “Sleepless in Seattle.” The Empire State Building on 34th Street is an absolute must see. The view from the top is fantastic.

Grand Central StationGrand Central Station Terminal is worth visiting even if you are not catching the subway. There is a fabulous market area & food hall under the terminal that is sure to tempt you along with some great restaurants. www.grandcentralterminal.com |
Brooklyn DinerBrooklyn Diner is great. You are mainly mixing with locals in this diner which is not on the tourist strip. In fact on my visit recently Jerry Seinfeld was having coffee in the seat opposite from where we were. The food is reasonably priced and very tasty. Check it out you wont be disappointed. I highly recommend the Chicken Pot Pie. www.brooklyndiner.com |
Macys 34th StreetIf you enjoy some retail therapy you will love New York. The stores and the variety of goods they offer is just amazing.
Of course there are many famous stores in the city but my favourite, and a good one for bargains at incredible prices, is Macy’s on 34th Street. They have a fantastic food hall where you can eat in or take away with a great selection of hot foods, mouthwatering cakes, pastries and a large variety of beverages just to name a few. www.macys.com |
The SubwayThe subway is the best way to get around New York City. The trains are reliable and run frequently and you can be at your destination in a few minutes. Much quicker than the alternatives and very safe. You can buy a weekly Metro Card which works out much cheaper if you are spending more than a couple of days in New York. www.mta.info/nyct/maps/submap.htm |
Central ParkHorse and Carriage rides in Central Park are fun but you can’t beat a walk through the park any time of the year. (I would not walk there after dark)

Statue of LibertyMost tourists take in the tours of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island but you can also get a fantastic view of the skyline and of the Statue of Liberty on the Staten Island Ferry. The ferry ride to Staten Island takes approximately 15 minutes and is free. Once you arrive just disembark, walk through the ferry terminal and get back on the same ferry for the return trip. Great photo opportunities especially from the back of the ferry.

Brooklyn Diner 57th StreetOur favourite Diner The Brooklyn Diner is the perfect place for breakfast, lunch and dinner – it's the food you really want to eat. It's that feeling of going back to the old neighborhood, of Brooklyn, the best of New York food. The famous chicken soup, baked mac & cheese, Chinese chicken salad and cheeseburger deluxe were all voted the BEST OF NEW YORK by New York Magazine. The chicken pot pie is so good that they often run out of it. Never has a chicken pie tasted so good. Brooklyn Diner 57th Street location is around the corner from Carnegie Hall, and close to Lincoln Center, Columbus Circle and City Center 55th Street. |

The Cake Boss If you are in New York City area and a fan of “The Cake Boss “ Carlos Bakery’s Buddy Valestro, then a visit to the store in Hoboken New Jersey is an absolute must. We took the ferry across the Hudson River and then caught a cab into Hoboken, about a 10 minute drive. Be prepared to queue, the day we were there it was a 2 hour wait before getting to the bakery door. So if you are planning to go get there early in the morning to minimize your wait. The cakes are amazing, with so many to choose from. I would recommend the Cannoli, the custard is the best I have ever tasted. No matter what you choose you cant go wrong. It's a sugar addicts paradise. You can buy souvenir t shirts, coffee mugs and of course cook books. |
